Iowa Safe Schools Web Site http://www.iowasafeschools.org Dear Friends,

Nearly two years ago, with all of your help, the Iowa Legislature and Governor Chet Culver took a historic step in passing and signing into law the Safe Schools Law which protects all students from bullying and harassment in schools.  This law was an important first step towards making Iowa’s schools and communities safe for our students including those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (GLBT).

After much work, I am very happy to announce the re-launch of our website.
In addition to this website, Iowa Safe Schools will be developing tools available on-line including recommended books/films, inclusive lesson plans and classroom activities, and an Ask the Expert area to post questions, problems, or stories in the field.  Along with these resources will be a monthly e-newsletter starting next week for all of you in our new Safe Schools Network.  All of these tools will be available in the coming weeks.

The last thing I wanted to mention was the 4th Annual Governors Conference on LGBT Youth.  The Conference will be held at Drake University on February 19th, 2009 with a
keynote presentation from Tana Goertz.  For more information on the Conference or to register click here <http://iowasafeschools.org/content/view/3/5/> . Workshops will include discussions on issues affecting transgender students, faith-based issues, and important legal information.  I hope to see you all there!

Thank you again for all your hard work and dedication to creating safe and healthy learning environments for ALL students in Iowa,

Nate
