Newsletter Chair: Beth Dedic

Beth Dedic, LISW received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University with a double major in sociology and psychology as well as a minor in criminal justice in 1988.  She received a second bachelor's degree from ISU in 1999 with a major in social work.  Beth received her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Kansas in 1992.  Prior to obtaining her master’s degree she worked at YSS (Rosedale Shelter) and then at  Beloit (LSI) in the residential treatment program. She was an integral part of moving the Beloit facility to a PMIC level program to better meet the needs of youth from across the state.  While working at Beloit she moved from a residential treatment counselor to a therapist working with the youth who lived at the facility.  Following the completion of her MSW she returned to Ames to work in the out-patient mental health program at LSI (now LSS).  After working as a therapist for many years she became the Clinical Director of the Outpatient program and worked to provide services in both Story and Boone counties.  She helped open and maintain outpatient services in Boone as well as work with county boards of supervisors to secure ongoing funding to ensure a sliding fee scale was available so mental health services could be accessible to more people.  She worked with grant monies to have mental health services in several schools     including Boxholm and Jefferson.  Beth started working at Heartland AEA in August of 1998 and is starting her 25th year as a school social worker.  She has worked as a program assistant for special education and served on the challenging behavior and autism team.  She was also a MANDT trainer for several years.

Outside of work Beth enjoys spending time with her family playing board games and cards.  She likes to kayak and fish (if someone takes the fish off the hook for her) and ride along with her sons while they golf.  She looks forward to Holidays as she gets extra time with her boys (ages 27 and 25). She enjoys reading and spending time with friends and she looks forward to her various girls’ night out events.
