Please Join ISSWA & ISPA for a Legislative Briefing on Wednesday, November 29th from 12-1:00 pm with Professor Sue Etscheidt Ph.D. from the Department of Special Education at the University of Northern Iowa. This session will introduce several topics related to behavior and discipline provisions in federal and state law.
The first topic, Behavioral Intervention Plans [BIPs], will present five themes from a current legal analysis of recent case law. Additional considerations for In-School Suspensions [ISS] and time out interventions will be included.
The second topic, Chapter 103 Debriefing Considerations, will explore student involvement in debriefing, the inclusion of mental health experts in debriefing, additional data for the debriefing report, eligibility determination following debriefing, and “lessons learned” from debriefing sessions.
The final topic, Iowa’s Senate File 2360: Guidance for Safe Classroom Learning Environments, will include a critical analysis of the legislation and implications for special education.
This event is free for ISSWA members and $10 for non-members.
