Recognition Chair: Shalee Torrence

 


Shalee Torrence, MSW, LISW, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker in the state of Iowa and currently is employed as a School Social Worker for Heartland Area Education Agency (AEA).  She has been an employee with Heartland AEA for 11 years and has served multiple school districts in a variety of different roles to include early childhood/early access, school-age based services, secondary transition, intensive behavior support team and currently serves as a school social worker supporting Bondurant-Farrar schools.  Prior to this she has held several different positions to include: Airman and Family Readiness Program Manager for the 132nd Wing in Des Moines, Iowa, Senior Family Readiness Support Assistant for the Iowa National Guard, Boys and Girls Club Director of Central Iowa, Family Support Coordinator for Head Start Program in San Angelo, TX and Youth Sports Program Director at Aviano Air Base, Italy.  Shalee received both her undergraduate (2004) and graduate (2013) degrees from the University of Iowa. Shalee resides in Bondurant, Iowa and is married to Daniel, who recently retired from the United States Air Force, and they have three children together, Kaylen (18), Colton (16) and Cora (9) and two dogs, Chance and Odin.  Outside of working as a School Social Worker, she is a USA Certified Swim Coach where she currently coaches the Girls Swim and Dive team at Southeast Polk High School and during the summers she teaches swim lessons, specializing in adaptive aquatics for children with disabilities and competitive swim. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling to new places around the World and serving her community and Church as a Sunday School Teacher and in various mission projects.
